My name is Stephanie Cook and I am a journalist, author and master’s student in the journalism department of the College of Media, Communication and Information at the University of Colorado. I grew up in the small town of Nederland, just west of CU’s Boulder campus, and love writing, studying and working amongst the elk, deer, hummingbirds and wild flowers of my home. After earning my BA in communication from Fort Lewis College in Durango I worked as a staff writer for the city’s daily newspaper, The Durango Herald. I then moved to Seattle where I served as an author and contributor for Notorious USA, a New York Times bestselling non-fiction book series focused on iconic American crimes. As a graduate student I’ve contributed to The Denver Post and 9 News as a political fact-checker for CU News Corps. I also cover Boulder County government and politics for the university’s blog, Under the Flatirons. Along with my beloved cat and traveling companion, Lola, I’ve traveled all over the American West. From the Pacific Northwest to the Southwest and everywhere in between, my passion is writing stories about the people and issues that define this part of the country.
